: issues related to the study of food security are always in the focus of attention of scientists, since providing the population with food is a strategic task of each state. The scientific literature presents studies of various aspects of food security, the main directions of which can be divided into two groups: traditional, studying the physical and economic accessibility of food and innovative, considering social, cultural and environmental aspects of food security. The paper presents an innovative seven-dimensional model of food security, taking into account both its traditional and innovative characteristics. In order to assess the adaptation of existing food security institutions to account for its innovative characteristics, six of the most common institutions were analyzed. The results show the lack of flexibility of the current food security system, the development of new ways to ensure food security (food sharing and the activities of intermediary structures) can make the food security system more balanced.
