MECHANOCHEMICAL TREATMENT OF SHOT-BLASTING CLEANING PRODUCTS OF V–AL MASTER ALLOY INGOTS FOR SYNTHESIS OF AL-BASED COMPOSITES
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
The paper demonstrates an effective possibility of using waste (shot-blasting dust) from the production of V–Al master alloys for obtaining the dispersion-strengthened composite materials based on aluminum. An analysis of the chemical, phase, and granulometric composition of dust from VnAl-65 and VnAl-1 master alloys has been conducted. To increase the reactivity, the shot-blasting dust (SBD) was subjected to mechanical activation in a planetary mill with the establishment of the optimal processing time. It significantly reduces the average particle size up to 8 µm with an increase in specific surface area by several times and induces amorphization of Al2O3. According to XRD analysis and electron microscopy, during the sintering of mixtures (Al + SBDVnAl-65, Al + SBDVnAl-1), a composite material is formed. Moreover, strengthening intermetallic compounds (Al3V, Al23V4 and Fe4Al13) are uniformly distributed in the aluminum matrix – a solid solution of V in Al.
