Anatoliy Ivanovich Zaitsev is Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation, Honoured Inventor of the Russian Federation, Laureate of State Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in Science and Technology, Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation, and YSTU Labour Veteran. He was born on September 22, 1935. Anatoliy Ivanovich spent his childhood in his native village Rozhdestveno, Myshkinsky district, the Yaroslavl region, Russia. His scientific path was quite hard and challenging. Prior to admission to Yaroslavl Institute of Technology (now – YSTU), Anatoliy Ivanovich went through several stages of personal development. After graduating from Yaroslavl Chemical and Mechanical College he had worked as a locksmith and shop mechanic at a defence enterprise in Sverdlovsk and served in the Soviet Army. Admission to Yaroslavl Institute of Technology involved Anatoliy Ivanovich into scientific, research, and inventive activities. Work at the Design and Technological Institute of the Tire Industry (KTI, now – JSC NIISHINMASH, Yaroslavl, Russia) inspired him to continue his postgraduate studies. Those were provided at the Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering, Moscow, Russia (MICE, which is a part of Moscow Polytechnic University now). Anatoliy Ivanovich's further career is strongly associated with Yaroslavl State Technical University, Yaroslavl, Russia. For almost 40 years, until 2016 he had been working as Head of the Department of Theoretical Mechanics. Furthermore, at certain stages of his career, he combined teaching and scientific activities with the position duties of YSTU Vice-Rector for Research. Professor A.I. Zaitsev is the author of more than 600 scientific, educational, and methodical works and monographs. Moreover, he has more than three hundred copyright certificates and patents for inventions of the Russian Federation. His ability to work, demanding attitude towards himself, desire to cooperate with youth, share knowledge and skills allowed Anatoliy Ivanovich to establish the scientific school for the study of dynamics of dispersed systems resulted in chemical process engineering development. Anatoliy Ivanovich's activity is recognised with many regional and federal awards. However, his main merit is the education and training of scientists: 9 doctoral and 40 candidate degree theses were prepared and defended under his supervision.
