The article covers the necessity of a systemic approach to defining the essence and the structure of a market’s competitive environment. A brief review of approaches to defining the essence of competitive environmentis presented, on the base of which an author’s definition of the essence and the structure of the category is worded. An author’s definition of the essence and the structure of a banking market’s competitive environment is worded. The key aspects of the modification of the banking market’s competitive environment in Russia are allotted.
